Our Commitment to Child Safety

MELCC is committed to keeping all children safe. We want children to be safe, happy, and empowered. We support and respect all children and believe they have the right to be heard, and participate, in our community. 

At MELCC we recognise and respect Aboriginal cultures and their unique place in the heritage and future of Victoria. As such, we are committed to the cultural safety of Aboriginal children. 

We are committed to the cultural safety of children from culturally and/or linguistically diverse backgrounds, and to providing a safe environment for children with a disability. 

We respect that all family structures are unique, and we welcome and support children and families from same sex and gender diverse families. 

MELCC has a zero tolerance of child abuse, and all allegations and safety concerns will be treated very seriously and consistently with our Child Safe Policies and procedures, and our Code of Conduct. 

We have a legal and moral obligation to contact authorities when we are concerned about a child’s safety, which we follow rigorously. 

MELCC is committed to preventing child abuse and identifying risks early and removing and reducing these risks. 

MELCC is committed to regular training and education of our team and volunteers on child abuse risks. 

Our Committee of Management, team and all volunteers must agree to abide by our code of conduct which specifies the standards of conduct required when working with children. They are aware of their responsibilities in regard to child safety.
