What ages do you cater for?
We cater for children aged from 6 weeks through to five years.
Our baby room caters for children aged 6 weeks to 2 years, Toddlers room 1.5 - 3 years and we offer government funded integrated 3 year old and 4 year old kinder programmes.
What is the structure of the centre?
We are a not-for-profit community Co-Operative where parents form our committee of management.
Families are encouraged to volunteer their time to support the management of the centre. A committee is formed annually at the AGM held at the centre in March. We encourage all families to attend the AGM as a way of getting to know the community, the educators and to hear about the operations of the centre and strategic planning for the year ahead.
Our committee consists of a diverse mix of professions and parents of all aged children to ensure each of the rooms is represented. The committee meets monthly on a Tuesday evening via video.
If being part of the MELCC CoM interests you, please raise with Carmel for further information.
As a member of the MELCC community we ask for your assistance in maintaining our facilities both inside and out by attending one working bee per year.
What are your fees?
With many programs on offer, and various Government funded options available, itβs best to get in touch to discuss what is best suited to you and your child.
Our fees include educational programs, incursions and some excursions, bedding, nappies, sunscreen as well as nutritionally balanced morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea. Meals are made fresh daily on the premises. All dietary requirements are catered for.
Fees are charged for all booked days, including Public Holidays.
Our 3 & 4 year old Kinder does partake in the Victorian government funded kindergarten scheme, and should you nominate, the fees reflect this.
The Child Care Subsidy (CCS) is available for families from Centrelink and we encourage you to apply.
What happens in school holidays?
The centre is open throughout the school holidays. We close only for 2 weeks at the end of the year for Christmas and New Years holidays.
Do you offer a kinder program?
Yes. We have 2 fully qualified kindergarten teachers who designs and runs our three and four year old kinder program. The program draws on the Early Years Learning & Development Framework (EYLF) and the Victorian Early Years Learning & Development Framework (VEYLDF) to offer your child educational experiences that will help them to develop and learn in all areas and give them the opportunity to partake in a play based, indoor/outdoor, child centered approach that emphasisβs learning though exploration, investigation and opportunities to practice problem solving, thinking skills such as creativity and lateral thinking. The objectives of the program include preparation for a seamless transition into Primary School.
Three and Four year olds must be enrolled at MELCC for at least two days per week to be eligible for Government funded Kinder as part of the Victorian Government as part of the Best Start, Best Life early childhood education reform. The subsidy will cover 15 hours of Kinder per week, with a yearly subsidy of $2,000 made directly to MELCC and reduced from your daily fees across the year.
As a long day care centre, children enrolled in our funded 3 and 4 year old Kinder program may also receive CCS depending on eligibility.

Yes, we recommend getting on the waitlist as soon as possible, even if it is for a start date several years from now.
Do you have a minimum enrolment?
No. We take children for one day a week through to full time, but we encourage families to take on two or more days, particularly in the Babies and Toddler Rooms to best support your child in settling in.
